Ryan in the Rockies
Ryan in the Rockies
Ryan's story begins at birth. Ryan was born with a condition unique to her. She is the only person known to be living with the condition that she has.
In spite of her challenges, Ryan is a fighter! God blessed her with a huge heart. She works hard to overcome her weaknesses.
Ryan, now 19, loves pushing herself, and is always ready for a new adventure. She works tirelessly to build strength, and endurance.
Ryan takes her first ride on her first bicycle in 2011.
We customized her bike to fit her over and over, added a 3 speed hub, changed the seat and moved it back several times, but she is now 5' 10" tall, and there wasn't much more we could do to make it fit her.
This is Ryan's first test ride on her new bike. It was still in the experimental stage of construction,
This is Ryan's first ride on her new bike after it was completed.
Ryan will attempt to cross the Colorado Rockies by bicycle. The planned, 150 mile, route follows Interstate Highway 70 between Denver and Glenwood Springs. She will be peddling her bicycle 100% by her own power, without the assistance of an electric motor, or help from anyone, or any other outside source.
The trip will be broken down into 10 to 20 mile legs, and will be divided into several separate adventures with stops at some of Colorado's most famous and spectacular destinations, like Keystone, Breckenridge, Silverthorne, and Vail.
The progress of her long trek will be recorded on this website and in the video links below. At the end of her journey she will be treated to a nice relaxing stay, and some fun activities in Glenwood Springs surrounded by friends, family, and any of her supporters that want to share in the celebration of her accomplishment.
This is an opportunity for Ryan to do something great and show the world that she can achieve great things, in spite of her limitations. Most of us are limited only by the limitations we place upon ourselves. Ryan is limited by the limitations that have been placed upon her. Ryan will never write a poem, she will never kick the winning goal, she will never hit a home run, be accepted to an Ivy League university, or work for a Fortune 500 company, but she would do all of those things if she could, because Ryan has the heart of a Champion!
Ryan's route will follow I-70. She will make stops at some, or all of the following destinations:
Genesee Park
Idaho Springs
Georgetown
Silverthorne
Copper Mountain
Vail
Edwards
Eagle
Gypsum
Glenwood Springs
Ryan would like to extent a special thank you to those that have stepped up to support her, TRP Cycling Components, Advanced Housing Concepts, Milano's Pizza, Prolific Welding, RCM Normalizing, Tektro USA.

Ryan grew out of the bike she got when she was just 6 years old! We customized it to fit her over and over, added a 3 speed hub, changed the seat and moved it back several times, but she is now 5' 10" tall, and there wasn't anything more we could do to make it fit her. Construction of a new, better bicycle for her was a must. Some of the features of the new bicycle include: 10 spoke alloy wheels, hydraulic disk brakes, front and rear suspension, and an 8 speed hub.
It would be nice to get some feedback directly from someone that has ridden her proposed course. If we knew in advance what we are facing each day we could better plan for it before we set out.
Please contact Ryan at the email address below if you can lend a hand with this.
Ryan's trek will be broken up into 10 separate legs, and divided into 10 - 20 mile increments along her route. Any lodging recommendations are welcome - Hotels, Motels, Airbnb's, Vrbo's etc.
Please contact Ryan at the email address below if you know anyone in any of theses industries that we can reach out to for assistance.
Ryan is a very enthusiastic and energetic young lady. She has never been on any kind of government aid, or received any special benefits. She's gone to private school with all of the "normal" kids, or been home schooled all her life. As her parents we've never asked for any assistance, or any kind of special benefits for her. She approaches every new day with excitement and determination.
Come along for the ride, and share in Ryan's great adventures.
